Monday -Friday

This week we are going to focus on two different tasks. 1. Continuing to learn about fractions, 2. Pursuing an inquiry on a topic of your choice. Both are explained below Read the whole thing first!

For all of this week your job is to choose a topic of interest to learn about. Next week we will present what we learned about to the class during Teams meetings.

  • You can learn about anything! Maybe you want to do some research on potatoes, or you are interested in how computers work, or you want to know how to bake a cake! It is 100% up to you!

  • Step One: Choose a topic.

    • Think back to our genius hour projects.. is there a topic you remember wanting to learn about? Is there something that has been on your mind lately? Is there a hobby or skills you want to learn? Make a list of what you might want to learn about and share it here:

  • Step Two: Ask some questions.

    • Make at least 5 good questions that will guide your inquiry. Remember a good inquiry question can't be answered with facts, but instead allows you to deepen your understanding.

    • Use the q-chart to help you make some strong questions.

  • Step Three: Learning Time!

    • Use one of the note taking sheets to record what you are learning. You can print this or record on it right in seesaw.

    • As you are learning make sure to be focusing on the questions you asked.

    • This step should be at least two days of work!

  • Step Four: Show What You Know

    • How are you going to share what you learned with the class? Do you want to make a powerpoint? A video? A poster? Something else?

    • It is up to you! Just be prepared to share your creation with the class!

For math we are going to continue to learn about fractions.

On Monday we have a meeting at 1 pm to continue our learning. It is expected that all students come to this lesson unless you reach out to your teacher first.

  • For this lesson you need to:

    • Sit at a table or desk

    • Have squares or strips of paper available to you

    • Have a notebook or paper to write on

    • Have a pen or pencil

    • Have scissors

There are three fractions practice activities this week. Work through them at your own pace, a good strategy is to do one per day.
